Cloudinary, the image and video platform powering many of the world’s leading brands, today announced that its global developer community surpassed four million, an 82% increase over the last year. As brands increasingly deploy visuals to engage, inform, entertain, and sell online, the technical challenges their engineering teams must outrun continue to escalate in scale and complexity. That includes optimizing visual assets for multiple social media platforms, creating immersive ecommerce experiences like virtual try-on, moderating user generated content, and adapting metadata for agentic commerce.

The 2025 Web Almanac highlights how quickly the landscape is shifting: video transferred on the median web page increased 28% year-over-year, from 246 KB to 315 KB, as brands lean further into video to drive engagement, trust, and conversion. Add multi-device optimization, Core Web Vitals requirements, and the rise of AI-generated content, and it’s clear why engineering teams are investing in infrastructure built to handle what comes next, not just what exists today.

These factors continue to expand Cloudinary’s total addressable market – and the company’s growth reflects it. It took nine years to reach one million users, three years for the second, sixteen months for the third, and nine months for the fourth. Each interval shorter than the last: as visual media management challenges multiply over time, developers increasingly turn to Cloudinary to solve them.

“We’ve been watching this compound for years,” said Sanjay Sarathy, SVP Developer Experience and Self Service at Cloudinary. “Managing images and video at scale was already a significant infrastructure challenge. Now teams are also managing AI-generated content, massive asset libraries, and increasingly complex delivery requirements – and the bar keeps rising. The developers coming to Cloudinary are looking for more than a tool. They’re looking for infrastructure that just works.”

AI native from the start, Cloudinary has expanded its platform to help enterprises reap visual media’s benefits and tackle the mounting challenges. In the past six months the company shipped Cloudinary Agents – AI agents for taxonomy, search, moderation, and workflow automation – alongside an Image-to-Video capability that generates channel-ready video from existing image libraries, and a new Image Generation tool. The additions extend what engineering teams can build now at far greater speed.

Cloudinary’s community now spans 198 countries and territories, collectively managing tens of billions of assets and petabytes of media traffic monthly.
